- Duplication → Extract function/class
- Long methods → Break into private helpers (keep tests on public interface)
- Shallow modules → Combine or deepen
- Feature envy → Move logic to where data lives
- Primitive obsession → Introduce value objects
- Existing code the new code reveals as problematic
